At the Institute of Nuclear Medicine, we conduct mappings (diagnosis with radioisotope imaging) that involve the administration of an isotope (radioactive material) through injection, inhalation, or ingestion, depending on the type of test.

The mappings - which are mostly quick, easy, and do not cause side effects - are performed using cameras that map the absorption of the isotope in the body. These images are then interpreted by the institute's doctors. The resulting images show how the radioactive substance binds to different tissues, aiding in the diagnosis of various conditions such as malignant tumors, neurological disorders, infectious diseases, endocrine issues, and cardiological conditions.

The cameras use digital technology, enabling the detection of tumors in their early stages and the use of smaller doses of radioactive material, resulting in reduced radiation exposure.  Additionally, the institute performs laboratory tests for blood cell marking and samples for hematological and inflammatory diagnosis.

The institute also offers isotopes for radiation therapy. For instance, radioactive iodine is used to treat thyroid cancer, lutetium for prostate cancer and neuroendocrine tumors, and radium for prostate cancer with bone metastases.

The PET-CT unit

The PET-CT unit at the Institute of Nuclear Medicine is renowned for its extensive experience in conducting this test in Israel. The procedure is carried out by highly skilled technicians, while the interpretation is performed by doctors with dual expertise in nuclear medicine and diagnostic radiology. The results are thoroughly discussed in interdisciplinary meetings involving imaging doctors, oncologists, surgeons, pathologists, and clinicians from various disciplines, ensuring informed and personalized treatment decisions can be made.

The PET-CT device used by the unit is one of the most advanced globally. It facilitates a swift body scan in under five minutes, which minimizes exposure to radiation while achieving exceptional image quality.
