Patients visit the occupational therapy unit at the Pain Day Hospital to address chronic pain stemming from conditions like complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), fibromyalgia, and arthritis.  These pains can lead to issues like movement and mobility difficulties, weakness, attention deficit disorder, memory loss, and can impact overall daily functioning.

Upon being admitted to the unit, patients undergo a thorough assessment of their daily activities (like walking, dressing, and household chores) and cognitive skills (such as memory and problem-solving). Together, we work on creating a tailored treatment plan.

Treatment is offered by certified occupational clinics that focus on pain rehabilitation (in collaboration with the multi-professional team in the department) and is also carried out using advanced technologies. It includes exercises to improve range of motion, strength and endurance; learning strategies for pain management and correct facilitators; adapting the environment and accessories for optimal functioning at home and at work; building an active and balanced daily routine; and cognitive-functional training. When required, patients participate in group therapy sessions. Here, they acquire skills to manage deficits in attention and memory, and cultivate positive thinking. Some individuals join a cooking group where they learn how to follow guidelines correctly and handle pain during activities. Others engage in a ceramic workshop and therapeutic gardening sessions.
