In the Oncology Day Care unit, chemotherapy treatment is administered through intravenous infusion. The duration of the treatment can vary from a few minutes to several hours. If the treatment takes longer, it may be provided in the inpatient department or as continuous infusion with a portable pump at the patient's home.
For home infusion treatment, central line insertion is necessary at the day hospital. This procedure is done under local anesthesia. The treatments begin by connecting the tubing to the medication bag and a compact portable pump. These items are conveniently packed in a small pouch that can be strapped to your body and taken home, typically for 48 hours.
