The management of Parkinson's disease primarily falls under the expertise of neurologists specializing in movement disorders. It predominantly involves medication and deep brain stimulation, which effectively slows down disease progression and increases life expectancy for those affected. Consequently, individuals with Parkinson's live longer with the condition, necessitating a comprehensive and substantial response to address their functional difficulties. In this regard, rehabilitation medicine plays a crucial role in assisting patients and contributing its wealth of experience.

Rehabilitation medicine today has the knowledge and tools to assess and treat the neurological deficits characteristic of the disease. Moreover, it has the capability to enhance the functioning and quality of life of Parkinson's patients, as well as those around them. It is important to note that the rehabilitation process is not a replacement for the neurological treatment provided, but rather a valuable complement to it.

What does the program include?

Various paramedical treatments provided by a multi-professional team skilled in treating individuals with neurological disabilities and functional disorders: physiotherapy, occupational therapy, complementary medicine, hydrotherapy, physical fitness training, communication, psychology and more.

  • Advanced science-based rehabilitation technologies including robotic, mechanical, electrical computerized systems for the treatment of posture, walking or movement disorders of the upper limbs.
  • Virtual reality systems for treating stability and walking problems.
  • Computerized walking tests for quantification and early diagnosis of disease progression.
  • Focus on common problems in Parkinson's disease - balance, walking, falls, speech, daily functions, and more.
  • Personalized program for each patient.
  • Treatment and ongoing support by a team of neurological rehabilitation experts.
  • Medical management and supervision from a rehabilitation specialist.
  • Regular contact with the treating neurologist.

How can the program help Parkinson's patients?

Technology-driven rehabilitation programs have demonstrated their efficacy in treating medical conditions including stroke, acquired head injuries, spinal cord injuries, and even Parkinson's disease. Parkinson's disease manifests as a range of motor and non-motor symptoms, significantly impacting both functionality and quality of life. Numerous studies prove the efficacy of rehabilitation treatment in Parkinson's patients, with the aim of improving function and adopting coping patterns that promote quality of life.

It is important to acknowledge that the rehabilitation process is not a substitute for the pharmacological neurological treatment, but complements it.
