The Psychiatric Emergency Room is an integral component of the general emergency room at the Sheba Medical Center, and is conveniently located within the same facility. The emergency room is open round the clock and welcomes all applicants, regardless of whether they have a referral or not. The emergency room caters to individuals who went directly to the psychiatric emergency room, or one of the specialized emergency rooms (general emergency room, children's emergency room, or women's emergency room), and whose doctors requested an urgent consultation with a psychiatrist.

Our emergency room doctors employ psychiatry-endorsed diagnostic methods and are also equipped to administer brief interventions when needed. The doctors have the option to refer the applicant to hospitalization in a psychiatric ward, another hospital, or a visit to an appropriate clinic in the hospital. They can also suggest community agencies like welfare services, drug or alcohol rehab services, and other institutions.

Consulting services for inpatient departments

Doctors in the various departments of the hospital are assisted by a psychiatrist in the diagnosis, case management and treatment of hospitalized patientspatients experiencing complex mind-body phenomena.

The psychiatrist assesses the impact of the patient's mental state on their treatment and advises the medical team in the department on the appropriate course of action.  These options may involve starting or adjusting drug treatment, providing psychological and social support, and facilitating communication among community care providers to ensure continuity of treatment.
