Blood test for detecting HIV

The test is known as the HIV Ag/Ab Combo Assay, commonly referred to as the "combined test." It detects the presence of both antibodies and a viral protein called P24.

When should you do the test?

It takes time for our bodies to develop enough antibodies for the test to detect them. In fact, it's only after three months of the suspected sexual contact that you can be sure if you've been infected. So, the right time for testing is three months after having sexual contact.

Do you need to make an appointment?

There is no need. Just drop by the clinic during opening hours. Don't forget to bring your ID.

Do you need to pay for the test?

Yes, there are two payment routes:

Private route: If you prefer not to disclose the test to your health fund, the cost of the test will be applicable to you.

If you don't mind your health fund knowing about the test, they will cover the cost without any deductible or Form 17 required.

In both routes, the test is carried out and the results are received at our clinic when you present your ID card.

When can you expect an answer?

You’ll receive the result within four working days. You can access the result in your personal medical file on the Sheba Connect website. (To register for Sheba Connect, please visit the clinic secretariat or use the Sheba app).
