Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is a minimally invasive procedure that replaces the aortic valve using a catheter, providing an alternative to heart surgery. This procedure has proven to be effective and its use is steadily increasing every year. At Sheba, our catheterization unit is proud to be one of the most experienced in Israel when it comes to performing this procedure.
The process of evaluating and adjusting patients for TAVI involves several stages:
1. A meeting with a cardiologist from our TAVI team for an initial assessmen regarding the degree of suitability for the procedure. They will explain the therapeutic options and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each.
2. An appointment with a heart surgeon to evaluate the surgical risk.
3. Echocardiogram
4. A CT scan to assess the anatomical fit for the TAVI procedure
After completing this process, a comprehensive summary meeting is held by a multi-disciplinary team that discusses and decides on the best approach for the valve replacement procedure.
