The Hemato-Oncology Institute

Director of the array: Prof. Amos Toren

Operating times:

Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, 8:00-16:00

Monday and Wednesday, 8:00-14:45

The Hemato-Oncology institute at Edmond and Lily Safra Children's Hospital is home to a day hospitalization unit where treatments are provided for several hours. We also have a clinic where we handle inquiries, follow-ups, and tests.

To make the bureaucratic process easier for you, let us guide you through each step.

When you arrive at the institute, simply head to the reception desk - it's the first stop for everyone.

During your first visit, we'll open a medical follow-up file for your child. This file will be used by the doctors and will stay with your child throughout all treatments.

At the reception desk, we'll handle your registration and provide you with the necessary forms for blood tests. We'll also direct you to the attending physician.

Our helpful secretaries will assist you with the requirements of your health fund. Representatives from all HMOs are available at the call center in the entrance lobby of the Hospitalization Tower. Remember to coordinate your arrival at the institute with the secretary before each clinic visit.

Once you're registered at the reception desk, head over to Ina's room, where the blood tests are conducted. It's located right here in the Institute.

A blood count is performed in this room. The blood is taken from the finger. If another blood test is needed, it will be taken from a vein.In this room, a blood count is performed. The blood is taken from the finger.  If a test is needed from a central vein (Port, PICC line, Hickman) this test will be performed in the nurses' station area.
The blood count will then be sent to the laboratory. The waiting time for results is usually about one to two hours.

While you are waiting, we want to make your stay at the institute more enjoyable for your child. They can take part in various activities, including:

  • Art class at the educational center
  • A computer zone with computer games and internet access
  • Playrooms with books and toys
  • TV with a wide selection of videos
  • Free play with girls from the National Service corps
  • Cafeteria for families

Once the blood test results are ready, they will be sent to the office along with the medical file and then to your treating doctor. Your child's name will be displayed on a board outside the doctor's room. At this stage, please go to the attending physician for a follow-up examination. The doctor will provide you with instructions for further treatment. Feel free to ask questions or discuss any concerns you may have.

We know your time is valuable and waiting can sometimes be frustrating. The minimum time to receive the blood count answer is one hour, but it may vary depending on the laboratory. We strive to admit children in the order of their arrival, but treatment start dates are often determined by urgency and duration. Therefore, we kindly ask for your patience when you come to the institute.
