At the MS Center's Occupational Therapy Unit, we provide treatment for patients diagnosed with MS who frequently experience challenges related to muscle strength, endurance, cognitive function, sensation, fine motor skills, and other impairments. These conditions can significantly impact daily activities, including home life, work, studies, and leisure time.
Our unit runs certified occupational clinics that specialize in the neurological and cognitive domains. Our primary goal is to enhance the daily functioning of our patients and empower them to lead fulfilling lives.
Upon admission to the unit, patients undergo a comprehensive examination conducted by an occupational clinic. This evaluation encompasses a motor and sensory assessment of the upper limbs, as well as a functional assessment to identify challenging daily activities like dressing, bathing, and eating. Additionally, a cognitive assessment is administered to evaluate memory, attention, thinking, information processing speed, organization, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
Treatment encompasses a range of exercises designed to enhance upper limb function, including increasing range of motion and preserving it. It also involves refining fine motor skills, improving strength and endurance, customizing aids and splints, and providing training to adapt to the environment. Cognitive training is also employed. Ultimately, our main goal is to improve patient functioning and promote maximum independence.
Our treatment protocol uses advanced technologies such as:
PABLO, a biofeedback system for motor practice, helps enhance grip strength, increase range of motion and endurance in upper limbs, and improve balance.
VRHEALTH, a virtual reality system that enhances upper limb strength and balance, and incorporates cognitive tasks.
The STIWELL med4, a device that improves hand functions through electrical stimulation, enhancing mobility.
RESENSE kit, that enhances touch sensitivity and boosts brain activity.
In addition to individual treatment, the unit offers:
Group treatments, which vary based on the number of participants, include kitchen/leisure, current affairs, motor skills, and memory groups.
Sensorimotor workshops led by product designer Michal Greenberg Abrahami: Goldsmiths focuses on fine sensorimotor work, strengthening the muscles of the fingers and hands, technical skill, concentration, mental stimulation and planning from an idea to a product.
Drawing in the Doodle Me line - helps develop the imagination and contributes to brain stimulation and mental flexibility.
