The trauma unit at Sheba is a renowned “super center” that specializes in the treatment of trauma victims, catering to approximately 2,800 injured individuals annually. Out of these cases, around 400 are complex and severe, requiring multi-disciplinary treatment from doctors across various fields.

Delivering the best possible care for injuries necessitates a profound understanding of trauma management and a meticulous approach that follows a well-established hierarchy and optimal timeframe. The trauma care coordinator plays a central role in coordinating the diagnostic and therapeutic activities for the injured and in supporting him and his family from the moment they arrive at the emergency medicine department (triage).

Complex treatment starts in the trauma room of the emergency medicine department, led by a trauma surgeon and skilled team. The team consists of emergency physicians, surgical and orthopedic specialists, an emergency medicine physician, as well as two nurses from the emergency medicine department.

Once the initial processing and life-saving operations are complete, the unstable injured individual is promptly transferred to either the operating room or the interventional radiology unit to halt bleeding. The treatment of emergency conditions that necessitate surgical intervention is carried out by multidisciplinary teams of specialised surgeons, under the supervision and guidance of a trauma surgeon.

The trauma unit offers advanced monitoring and rehabilitative care for individuals with multiple-system injuries, encompassing head, chest, abdominal, pelvic, and limb injuries. The main aim of the unit is to quickly identify and treat early complications related to trauma, so they don't become a life-threatening risk for the patient.
