The Eating Disorders and Weight Treatment Center is the largest facility of its kind in the country. It offers services to patients over the age of 18 dealing with various degrees of eating disorders, including Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder, Atypical Anorexia, and Night Eating Syndrome. Treatment is tailored to each patient's needs, the nature and severity of the disorder taken into account.
The admission process starts with an evaluation to determine the diagnosis and severity of the condition. The first part involves a meeting with a psychologist or clinical social worker, providing an overview of the patient's general condition, referral reason, background, and treatment history. The second part includes a meeting with a dietitian, providing an overview of the eating disorder's nature, background, coping duration, and symptom severity. Based on these meetings, the team provides a treatment recommendation.
The center consists of a hospitalization department, outpatient clinic, day treatment unit (offering private and group treatments three days a week), and a day treatment unit for long-term patients (providing group treatments two days a week). As part of a general hospital system, the center also offers additional services to inpatients, including specialist consultations (with Form 17), laboratory tests, and imaging.
The team at the centre handles both physical and emotional health concerns, and is made up of a group of knowledgeable experts. Most of them specialise in mental health, including doctors, psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, social workers, expressive therapists, and dietitians. They are supported by a rehabilitation team, certified nurses, dedicated staff, a physical education instructor, and a national service volunteer.
