The Blood Bank engages in four primary areas of activity:

Blood donation

Donating blood saves lives. The Sheba Blood Bank provides approximately 400 blood products daily to hospitalized patients. Blood donations are crucial for surgeries and patients in departments such as bone marrow transplants, hematology, oncology, high-risk pregnancy, cardiothoracic surgery, and internal medicine.

Apheresis – separating the components of a patient’s blood

  • Plasmapheresis: the specific removal of plasma.
  • LDL apheresis: specific removal of cholesterol.
  • Leukopheresis: removal of white blood cells from the blood of acute leukemia patients.
  • Therapeutic thrombopheresis: for patients with thrombocytosis.
  • Erythrophresis: removal of erythrocytes infected with diseases like malaria and replacing them with donated erythrocytes.

Collection of platelets from a single donor – thrombopheresis donation

Donation of single-donor platelets, particularly in wards and day hospitalizations, catering to bone marrow transplants, paediatric and adult haematology, as well as oncology.

To donate platelets from a single donor, please contact the thrombopheresis team directly at 03-5305375 to schedule an appointment.
