Our clinic is dedicated to preparing patients with end-stage renal failure to undergo kidney transplant surgery. Preparation includes a comprehensive medical assessment of the heart, lungs, and liver function, blood tests (including blood and tissue typing), and a psychological, psychiatric, and social assessment. These evaluations make sure that patients are well-prepared for the intricate surgery, are able to manage their health effectively, and committed to ongoing monitoring and medication.
In the clinic, prospective kidney donors undergo identical tests to the actual donors, as well as comprehensive medical examinations that validate their wellbeing. This includes imaging to assess the kidney anatomy for suitability towards resection and transplantation.
If the kidney donor is a close family member, their medical documents and those of the recipient are transferred to the committee for donation approval, which belongs to the hospital. The committee should confirm the compatibility between them and consider the chances of a successful transplant. If the kidney donation is altruistic – for example, from a distant family member, friend, or a stranger – the test results of the donor and the recipient will be forwarded to the committee for donation approval of the Ministry of Health. If there is no living kidney donation, the patient is registered in the database of the National Transplant Center (ADI) and is added to the waiting list for a deceased kidney donation.
Our clinical team, comprising doctors, nurses, a transplant coordinator, a social worker, a psychologist and a dietician - is here to provide support to patients before and after transplantation. Their goal is to ensure a successful surgery and help patients regain full functionality. Patients receive meticulous guidance in how to maintain the transplanted kidney and prevent rejection by the body, as well as how to live a healthy lifestyle that includes physical activity and proper nutrition. Kidney donors receive guidance on living with one kidney and are invited for regular follow-ups at the clinic.
