Laboratory for Glaucoma Innovation and Research
The Laboratory for Glaucoma Innovation and Research focuses on creating and testing new technologies and methods to treat and diagnose glaucoma - a major cause of irreversible blindness in the Western world - quickly and effectively.
Our laboratory is at the forefront of research - basic science studies for the characterization and development of new therapeutic methods, conducting pre-clinical studies and leading multi-center clinical trials to assess how effective and safe various strategies are in preventing, diagnosing, and treating glaucoma. Our lab team is also exploring how big data and telemedicine can be used to enhance early detection, assess disease progression, and improve treatment efficacy.
All studies are conducted in accordance with the strict international rules of GCP (Good Clinical Practice) and with the approval of the ethics committees for experiments on humans and animals of the Sheba Medical Center.
The laboratory benefits due to generous research grants and productive partnerships with numerous institutions both in Israel and globally. These include Columbia University in New York, Tel Aviv University, Bar Ilan University, the Israel Innovation Authority, the Office of the Chief Scientist, the Tel Hashomer Innovation Center, and the Eye and Vision Research Institute, among others.
