The Neuro-Ophthalmology unit specializes in diagnosing and treating a range of neurological and general eye conditions that impact the visual system and eye health. This includes optic nerve problems, unexplained/transitory vision loss, disturbances in the visual field, double vision, eye movement disorder (microvascular paralysis of the cranial nerve), eyelid position disorder, pupil size disorder (anisocoria), myasthenia gravis, eye bulge, brain tumors, and increased intracranial pressure.

The diagnosis and treatment are carried out in collaboration with various departments and divisions, including neurology, neurosurgery, oncology, endocrinology, neuroradiology, neuroimmunology, and multiple sclerosis.

In the unit, we also offer training and educational opportunities for students from ophthalmology and neurology departments. We also have a talented team of individuals starting their careers, both in Israel and abroad. Furthermore, we undertake research studies on a range of vision-related subjects, and foster collaborations with other departments and medical centers. These cover topics such as compromised blood supply to the optic nerve, prevalent visual disturbances, and elevated intracranial pressure.

How to prepare for a visit to our clinic?

Please remember to bring a referral letter from either a neurologist, neurosurgeon, endocrinologist, or ophthalmologist. Make sure the letter specifies your medical problem and includes any relevant updates. Don't forget to bring along any relevant documents and imaging discs, such as CT and MRI scans. Additionally, if applicable, provide a list of your diseases, surgeries, medications, and allergies.

During your visit, which typically lasts around three to four hours, we will conduct important auxiliary tests. These include visual field, OCT, and orthoptic examinations, which assess eye movements, coordination, and visual acuity. Please note that your pupils will be dilated, which might temporarily blur your vision. For your safety, it's recommended to have someone accompany you, as driving is not permitted for two hours afterwards.
