Bone marrow transplants in children have been performed in the Pediatric Hemato-Oncology unit in Sheba since 1995. To date, over 700 transplants  have been performed. The transplant service performs 45-55  transplants per year, two thirds of which are allogeneic (foreign donor) transplants, and about one third are autologous transplants. We offer a range of allogeneic transplants, including transplants from family donors, foreign donors from reserves in Israel and around the world, and transplants from partially matched donors. These types of transplants are complex and demand sophisticated manipulation of the bone marrow. As a result, they can currently only be carried out at select centres in Israel and around the globe.

Service for Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Recipients addresses children who require a transplant due to various cancers as well as congenital diseases, including immunodeficiency, bone marrow failure and thalassemia. Patients who undergo a bone marrow transplant are hospitalized in the Pediatric Hemato-Oncology department, where 6 beds have been allocated for this purpose. After undergoing a transplant procedure, it is crucial to provide continuous follow-up and close support for the recipient.

Following their discharge from the hospital, transplant patients are welcomed to a day hospital. Here, a dedicated team of doctors, along with the transplant coordinator, provide comprehensive medical follow-up and support. The transplant coordinator is there to support and accompany patients and their family members throughout the entire recovery process.

Additionally, we engage in extensive ambulatory activity, which encompasses a multidisciplinary GVHD clinic. Our services include cellular therapy (DLI, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs)), collection of peripheral progenitor cells and bone marrow, as well as Extracorporeal Photopheresis (ECP).
