The Center for Phototherapy treatments offers a range of treatments for skin diseases such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis (skin asthma), lichen planus, cutaneous scleroderma, and mycosis fungoides (a form of cutaneous T-Cell lymphoma). Our main treatment method is phototherapy - using light irradiation - which can help achieve long-lasting remission from skin disease. Treatment durations vary depending on the condition, but typically involve three sessions per week conducted over two to three months, with each session lasting a few minutes.
The Institute boasts state-of-the-art technological equipment that is considered some of the most advanced in the world. Certain devices emit radiation throughout the entire body, while others target the hands and feet. The type of radiation and device is determined by our expert team of medical professionals, who take into account several factors including the type, location, and severity of the disease, as well as the patient's condition. Light exposure, particularly to UVA and UVB ultraviolet rays, is carefully regulated and gradual, offering improvement for various skin conditions, including psoriasis.
The Institute also performs phototests - a series of tests to diagnose diseases resulting from oversensitivity to solar radiation, whereby patients are exposed to various light sources of increasing intensity.
At our dermatological day care, patients receive specialized treatment in the morning or afternoon, avoiding the need for a prolonged hospital stay and allowing them to maintain their daily routines. Each day, patients have a visit with their doctor, who updates their treatment plan as necessary. Typically, a combination of phototherapy, the Geckermann protocol, and injections (including intravenous) are utilized for optimal care.
The Geckermann protocol, one of the oldest and most effective treatments for various inflammatory skin conditions like psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and lichen planus, involves the application of ointments, dressings, and medical baths, typically lasting around 15 half days. This approach can help patients achieve long-term remission from their disease.
The injections we administer typically provide relief for about three to four hours per day, with the frequency varying based on the specific condition. They contain biological drugs for treating diseases like psoriasis, pemphigus, scleroderma, chronic urticaria (hives), and alopecia areata. Additionally, they can contain drugs for managing infectious diseases such as leishmania (the rose of Jericho) and its various complications.
