Microsurgery Unit

Sheba's microsurgery unit, led by Dr. Batia Yaffe, pioneered the introduction of this technology into plastic and reconstructive surgery in Israel. The unit collaborates with the hand department and performs all reconstructive surgeries that involve connecting blood vessels and nerves, including emergency procedures and elective surgeries following trauma, tumors, or breast reconstructions.

In cases where straightforward tissue transplantation isn't feasible, it is necessary to transfer different types of tissue by connecting the blood supply and nerves, and this can only be performed under a microscope. Thanks to the extensive experience accumulated at Sheba, most breast reconstruction surgeries in microsurgery, as well as breast reconstruction surgeries after breast cancer, are performed at Sheba.
